Dr. Darcy:

I am a femme and was told that I look ‘straight’, whatever that means. Whenever I choose lesbian pubs I am terminated as ‘bi-curious’ or even the ‘friend-of-a-lesbian’ lady. I have two concerns:

1) really does becoming a lesbian imply that I want to butch myself up in order to be given serious attention?

2) any kind of some other women that are into trend, hip restaurants, and that in essence fashionable brand new Yorkers, for whom getting homosexual just isn’t their own whole identification?

You are not alone!

I have had this concern presented if you ask me over and over again. It isn’t really easy in a community and feeling hidden, but modifying the way you look need not end up being the response. I am not claiming i have never really had a Brittany second in which We asked the significance of long-hair, the necessity for yet another pair of Manolos, while the potential change shedding both might have on my experience with this neighborhood. But as I’ve stated before, the best way to transform a stereotype is not through conformity. The feminist movement ended up being meant to provide us with alternatives, perhaps not limit them.

Having said that, I think there are various other lesbian and bisexual women who have a plethora of passions including patronizing the “webpage Six” institutions and having to pay obscene quantities of money to sit in tents of Fashion day. As a resident unique Yorker, my personal advice is always to look-in this really mag when it comes to club-like venues, which can be where you will surely find femmes in figures!

At the same time, buy yourself a season of

The L Keyword

, throw on that facial mask you never have time for, and relish the recognition your figures make available to many of those who’re femme for the core. Only to end up being safe, dispose off the buzzer when you have one, minimum you find yourself in a weak second.
